Dear Friends:

“Let’s move!”

That’s what our young refugee friend, Rahma, says when he’s acting as our guide inside the camp that has now been his home for eight years. Once he knows what we need to accomplish, it becomes his mission to help us, and he does not want to waste any time. 

When we first met Rahma, he told us that he wants to be president of Sudan, so his people “can live in my village.” Simple but powerful: he wants to go back home, and he wants all of his people to go back with him.

Sadly, his home and the rest of Sudan’s marginalized areas are as dangerous as ever, and the world seems to believe in the responsibility to protect — when it’s convenient and politically comfortable. For all of the marginalized people of Sudan, this is not right.

As Rahma says, let’s move!

1. Act. Sign a petition asking the United States to change policy to confront the government of Sudan for mass atrocities and to act to protect civilians.
2. Watch. A video by End Impunity of the Sudanese Rally at the United Nations. Representing all the marginalized peoples of Sudan, the activists called on the United Nations to act for true peace, protection, democracy, and justice.
3. Support. Darfur United, the creation of an all-star Darfuri refugee soccer team and the telling of their journey — on and off the field.
